{"id":1149,"date":"2016-08-01T08:50:28","date_gmt":"2016-08-01T07:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forschungingotha.wordpress.com\/?p=1149"},"modified":"2017-09-09T11:11:26","modified_gmt":"2017-09-09T09:11:26","slug":"wanted-herzog-ernst-scholarship-holders-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gotha3.de\/forschungsblog\/archives\/1149","title":{"rendered":"Wanted: Herzog Ernst Scholarship Holders 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Herzog-Ernst-Scholarship Programme of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fritz-thyssen-stiftung.de\/\">Fritz Thyssen Foundation<\/a> at the Research Library Gotha and the Gotha Research Centre of the University of Erfurt aims to promote academic research by providing access to the resources of the Research Library and of the associated historic collection of the Justus Perthes Gotha Publishing House as well as collections held in the Gotha Friedenstein Castle. These resources pertain mostly to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Ducal court in Gotha as an example for German and European court culture<\/li>\n<li>History of publishing and book trade<\/li>\n<li>History of science and cultures of knowledge as global history, history of transfer, and entangled history, 16<sup>th<\/sup> to 20<sup>th<\/sup> century<\/li>\n<li>History of European literature, particularly 16<sup>th<\/sup> to early 19<sup>th<\/sup> century<\/li>\n<li>Early Modern and 19<sup>th<\/sup>-century study of Classical religions, history of Protestantism, and Islam<\/li>\n<li>Philosophy and history of the German and European Enlightenment<\/li>\n<li>Heterodoxy, dissidence, and subversion<\/li>\n<li>History of the humanities, e.g. numismatics, oriental studies, philology<\/li>\n<li>History of natural science, e.g. alchemy, astronomy, and botany<\/li>\n<li>The history of spatially oriented disciplines, 16<sup>th<\/sup> to 20<sup>th<\/sup> century, e.g. ethnology, geology, geography, and statistics<\/li>\n<li>History of cartography and imperial history<\/li>\n<li>Cartography and \u201ccritical geopolitics\u201d<\/li>\n<li>History of objects and the historical study of material culture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications should ideally be geared towards one of these fields. Research scholarships for Ph.D. students will be awarded for periods of up to nine months (\u20ac 1,100 per month) and postdoctoral scholarships for up to six months (\u20ac 1,600 per month). Moreover, we welcome in particular applications corresponding to the following grant types: exploration stipends for PhD candidates embarking of their dissertation as well as \u201ctext and object\u201d stipends for PhD candidates and postdocs, applying themselves to the relations between texts and objects. Applications for \u201cprofile stipends\u201d for projects related to one of the research focuses at the Centre are likewise especially welcome. Senior scholars are invited to apply for a Hiob Ludolf-Fellowship (a monthly grant of up to \u20ac 1,200 for one or two months to help cover travel and boarding expenses). The Research Centre is particularly happy to receive applications by female scholars.
